Who Am I That Thou Art Mindful Of?
As I reflected on the inspiration for today and asking God what is it He would have me to write, this question surfaced, ‘who am I that thou art mindful of’? I Quickly turned to Psalm 8:4 which says, “what is man that thou art mindful of him....?”
David pondered, what is man? This question denotes the frailty of man. It also showing the weakness of man, man’s nature to sin and our mortality. Man’s imperfection stared David in his face. David went on to say, “That thou art mindful of him?” Speaking of God’s providential care, His favor and mercy, irrespective of our sinful nature.
The Lord has favored us to the extent of giving us dominion over all things, verse 6. God has placed everything under our feet. Please allow this to soak in. We are over all the sheep, oxen, the beast of the field, fowl of the air, fish of the sea. This Psalm echoes Genesis 1:26, when God created us in His image.
The Psalm started with, “O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth,” verse 1. These very words concluded the Psalm in verse 9, declaring God’s sovereignty. David is in total awe and adoration of God. This is the same position I find myself in, hence the question, who am I that thou art mindful of me?
God Bless.
