Weaponized Words (Proverbs 18:21)

"Sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me." This common childhood chant is untrue.

The destructive and long-lasting harmful effects of words have caused bones to break throughout history, words have caused death, chaos and wars where millions have died.

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits" (Proverbs 18:21)

We are all guilty at some point in using words inappropriately that have caused hurt and wrong.

The untamed tongue is a restless evil full of poison (James 3:8).

James emphasizes the urgent need for believers to recognise the immense power of the spoken word.

The Apostle highlighted the inconsistency of praising God with one breath and then injuring people made in God's image with the next.

Negative words are weapons that cut deep into the hearts and emotions of the receiver.

With small children negative

words can invoke on their characters a lifetime of low self-esteem resulting in lack of self confidence.

In our contemporary world Weaponized Words have grown in every facet and joint of our culture, through social media, movies, music, arts and television. These all add to the increase of negative words that have become the norm.

Unfortunately this impacts behaviour and character even among families and friends resulting in dysfunctional homes and broken friendships.

Additionally the general public has more crime and violence.

There are biblical beliefs and practices that can help with negative and destructive words.

Follow this blog next week and we will certainly explore the positive ways of using words to heal, inspire and motivate.
