Waiting – a heavy load
Straight through life I have heard the saying, “waiting is a heavy load”. The weight of waiting is heavy because it causes one to feel their prayers are not answered, to feel forgotten or to feel helpless. “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait I say, on the Lord,” Psalm 27:14.
Waiting is a posture we develop through faith, believing that God is able to move us into the “Next”. The next is anything that’s better than the right here and now: the next thing, next step, person, place or plan. The difficulty of waiting is a deep desire for control and comfort.
As a track and field lover, I am exposed to the act of false starting. This is when an athlete takes off running before being sent. When an athlete is in the set position, they are anticipating the signal to go. Sometimes they start running before the time, which causes disqualification. A false start spiritually, is when we go without being sent. We move without knowing God’s will or His direction. This anxiety also causes disqualification, because the glory here doesn’t belong to God.
“And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou has not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which He commanded thee ….,” 1 Samuel 13:13. Saul false started when he went ahead and made a burnt and a peace offering, when he was to wait on Samuel. Wait upon the Lord and again I say wait.
God Bless.
