Unity in the Spirit by Minister Owen Mitchell

Inspiration

Unity in the Spirit

“Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism. One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in all,” Ephesians 4:3-6. Saints of God, take a minute to think about these words.

The thought of unity in the Spirit has really taken a hold of me. I have been swirling it around in my mind for a while now, trying to understand the division that is within the body of Christ. In 1 Corinthians 1:10, the scriptures say, “now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no division among you, but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgement.” In verse 13, the question is asked, “is Christ divided? ….”

As I was relating to a Pastor the other day, talking about the lack of unity in marriages, he said something so profound, unity is based on the activity of the Holy Spiri in our lives. The more connected we are in the Spirit, the more connected we will be in our marriages. The fact is, the Spirit of God causes unity, not division. So it is with marriages, so it is with the Church!

A united spirit speaks to the unity of affection, of confidence, of love within the body. This means that Christians must be united in our temperament, and not to be split up into fractions and parties. This unity can only be implied and produced by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit works from the heart to perfect our souls in the likeness of Christ and so building up the whole Church in unity, in Him.

God Bless.
