Time?
When as a child I laughed and wept, time crept.
When as a youth I dreamed and talked, time walked.
When I became a full-grown man, time ran.
When older still, I daily grew,
time flew.
Soon I shall find, in passing on,
Time gone.
O Christ! wilt Thou have saved me then? Amen. (Henry Twell)
Time's Paces is a poem about the apparent speeding up of time as one gets older.
As a spinning fan inner parts move slowly and the outer blades spin faster, time speeds up as
we age.
So is the hour arm on a clock shorter moves slower, and the minute arm longer but moves
faster, time moves quicker as we mature.
So too our physical body ages we move faster towards the end of our sojourns in this temporal
world.
"Time waits for no man"
"Make haste while the Sun shines"
In 1945 Isidor Rabi, a physics professor suggested an atomic clock could be built and between
1949 to 1952 Using Rabi's technique, the National Bureau of Standards in America built an
atomic clock.
The atomic clock is the most accurate type of timepiece in the world, designed to measure time
according to vibrations within atoms.
Since 1975 the upgraded atomic clocks, neither gained nor lost one second in 300,000 years.
God gave us both the talent and skills to invent and use time so use them wisely.
In our personal lives time management is important. Time becomes so fleeting as we get older,
we have to develop a plan that helps us to use our short time wisely to get important things
done. We also need to prioritize time for our spiritual development and for our eternal father and
creator. Here is a list of things we can do to manage our time:-
1 Do a time management list.
2 Block out distractions.
3 Schedule yourself.
4 Avoid multitasking.
5 Make others respect your time.
6 Prioritise most important.
7. Get a good night's sleep.
Conclusion
As we get older time gets shorter, therefore we need to prioritize to get the full benefit of our
time. We should prioritize time for our God as he is the creator of time and he dictates where we
will spend our eternity in time.
