The Prodigal Son
This parable is about a father with two sons, one of whom asks for his inheritance, before it was due to him, and then wastes it on a life of indulgence. When he runs out of money, he's forced to work for a pig farmer, which was a derogatory job for a Jew. He realizes his poor situation and decides to return home. The father, who had given up on ever seeing his son again, is overjoyed when he returns and welcomes him home and prepares a fine banquet, "my son who was once lost is now found" (Luke 15:11–32).
A simple story, but one applicable to all of us as children of God. The following are some of reflections from the story Jesus taught about the prodigal son that are relevant to our lives:
A). God does not always get in the way of our sinful desires.
B). Sometimes we want things before we are ready.
C). Not everyone is happy about your spiritual growth.
D). The journey of faith can be lonely sometimes.
E). God is always looking, waiting, and watching for you to come back to Him.
F). God does not care what other people think about Him or about you.
G). When God forgives, He restores completely.
It doesn't matter how far we stray from our Heavenly Father, or how much we squander the gifts He provides; He is always delighted when we turn back to Him.
This story shows God's love for people and how he welcomes them back when they ask for forgiveness.
