Last week article summarised the mystery of the Gospel.
This week we look into the
four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John that add clarity to this mysteries.
All four gospels are different yet similar in emphasis to the central character, Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.
All four gospels focus on the birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.
According to theologians, the book of Matthew was written so that Jews could identify and understand this mystery, this is why the genealogy starts from Abraham Isaac and Jacob, through king David, to Jesus Christ the
Messiah. (Matthew 2:2)
[Jesus=King of the Jews]
The book of Mark was written to show Jesus's power and authority through miracles, signs and wonders.
(Mark 4:41)
(Ephesians 1:21)
(Colossians 2:10)
(Matthew 28:18)
[Jesus=power and authority]
The book of Luke was written to a gentile Theophilus, as such the genealogy is from the first created man Adam to Jesus Christ. Luke is a historic and journalistic book which gives a thorough account of Jesus’ life, arranged in chronological order.
Jesus explained this deep mystery that all the books written in the entire Old Testament speak of him exclusively (Luke 24:44)
[Jesus=saviour of all].
The book of John was written with spiritual clarity, that in the beginning was the Word and the Word becoming flesh and dwelt among us.
(John 1:1-3,14)
[Jesus=the Word]
In summarising, the mystery of the gospels are revealed in the four gospels. It is God's grace proclaimed to all mankind, through the works of God's only begotten Son Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
