The Mindfulness of God
“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? And the son of man that though visitest him,” Psalms 8:4? The question is asked by David, “what is man, that thou art mindful of him,” a question that still perplexes my mind.
The story is told in Genesis 3 of how the serpent beguiled Eve and Adam. God knew of their sin when He visited them but He calmly called to Adam and said, “where art thou”? This is a total reflection of how mindful God is of us. Even though we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity, God is still mindful of us.
This Psalm spoke to my heart this morning as I remembered the people we minister to. The alcoholics, drug addicts and the homeless. The Lord showed me that these are His people, His creation and He is ready to save regardless of how deep in sin they are. Despite their uncleanness, smell, clothes, cuts and bruises; their attitude and demeanor because of the drugs they put in their bodies. God is still mindful of them.
God is still mindful of us, even though we come before Him battered and bruised. We come into His presence hurt and broken, He sees us and is willing to receive us. Many of us think we need to put ourselves in order before we come to God but God says, come as you are, I will put you in order.
