The Hidden Gift
Read this scripture this morning in Habakkuk 3:16, that spoke of Habakkuk’s lips quivering and it had me reminiscing. I remembered the first day I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of speaking in other tongues.
Isaiah 28:11, “for with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.” Can you imagine God getting so angry with Judah, that He would use their enemy to speak to them? People of a strange language whom He would bring among them and into whose power He would deliver them. God did this because they would not take heed to His prophets and ministers. This method God used, would bring great aggravation to His people.
Stammering lips and another tongue means to speak in a foreign language. Fast forward to today, I can’t help but to ask myself, has this gift become hidden? Does God not speak to His people through this gift anymore? One school of thought is actually combining the infilling of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of other tongues with the gift of tongues. Please do not get entangled with this theory because these are different operations of the same Spirit. Many think once you speak in tongues you are exercising the gift of tongues, they are two different operations.
The Holy Spirit’s versatility should by no means be reduced because of our lack of knowledge. The Holy Spirit indwells us after we accept Him as Lord and Savor 1 John 4:15. The Holy Spirit fills us with power for ministry, Acts 2. The Holy Spirit gives us the gift of tongues and the interpretation of tongues for the edification of the body, 1 Corinthians 12:10. The Holy Spirit produces the Fruit of the Spirit, Galatians 5:22-23.
If God used strange languages to communicate with His people in the Old Testament and He is the same yesterday, and today, and forevermore, why is there so much unbelief and the misunderstanding tongues? Lack of tongues and interpretation of tongues leads to lack of communication with God.
God Bless.
