In Christianity spirituality means knowing that our lives have significance beyond a
mundane everyday existence at the level of biological needs or the survival drive. It means knowing that we are a significant part of a greater plan and purpose.
In this universe.
Spirituality involves recognition or a belief that there is
something greater than oneself, something more to being human than our five sensory
experiences, and that the greater whole of which we are part is divine in nature.
As Christians understanding spirituality includes knowing that both good and evil exist, the adversary of our world is Satan and the fallen angel whose rebellion against God and his kingdom is the enemy.
See Genesis 2:17
However the champion of good is Jesus Christ whose redemptive works and power removed the curse of death and delivered life and life more abundantly.
The spiritual worldview is the only practical way of answering questions in our natural World.
1. Where do we come from?
2. Why are we here?
3. And where are we going?
Other religions don't have comprehensive answers.
"Our purpose in life is the very meaning of our existence and without knowing this we often suffer ignorance of our own significance. We fall prey to the illusion that our lives don't matter and we have no connection or impact on the world around us. The Bible offers many insights into man's purpose on Earth and living within a meaningful mission.
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him." Colossians 1:16.
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens." Ecclesiastes 3:1.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted" Job 42:2
All humans are born with a purpose and it is not God's will that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
Next week we will look at the natural world.
