Procrastination

I have been married to a procrastinator. My spouse is a laid-back, creative explorer, and the last minute of doing things under pressure is always my spouse's habit. I am a to-do-list loving, organized captain of the parental ship that keeps our children afloat and the house running smoothly. Just the thought of putting a project off until the very end causes a cold sweat to break out on my upper lip. We could chalk this up to personality differences, or typical marital conflict to be hashed out, but does God have an opinion about procrastination? YES! In the Bible, Colossians 3:23 (ESV) tells us, “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” The book of Proverbs has much to say about the importance of hard work and is especially stern about laziness, such as Proverbs 12:24, “The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.” God highly values our work and expects us to do it to the best of our ability. Our time and talents are gifts from God and are not to be wasted. Seeing that we only past this way once in a lifetime we don't get a second chance to do over or correct any errors or mistakes. Procrastination is a sin. When we put tasks off until the last minute, doing our best work is rarely the result. Prayerfully preparation prevents poor performance. So to avoid procrastination do the following and over time with discipline it will become habit. 1). Prioritizing your work and assignments is another way to help you avoid procrastination. Every week or so, make a list of what needs to be completed. 2). Eliminate Distractions, limiting the number of distractions around you, you're more likely to get done what you need to do. Shut your phone off, retreat to a quiet place. 3). Set Deadlines, give yourself a time to complete a given task. 4). Holding yourself accountable for completing your assignments on time While it is easy to find reasons to procrastinate and take unnecessary or extra-long breaks, catch yourself before this happens. Remember that you are responsible for the assignments you complete. Finally, you need help in holding yourself accountable, tell a friend or family member and ask them to check up on your goals, deadlines, and accomplishments. I pray the fear and respect of the Lord will motivate you to stop procrastinating because it is a sin. Marcel and Jacqueline Bruff 🙏🏾 Walk Good in Christ
