Preaching the glorious gospel by Marcel and Jacqueline Bruff

PREACHING THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL

While every believer should take up the responsibility of spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ, there are those with a deep burden and calling to do so.

Although we are living in an age of apostasy and a backsliding generation without the fear of God, nevertheless, men and women of God must rise up to declare "Thus saith the Lord!", without fear or favor.

The word of the LORD came to me:

"Son of man, speak to your countrymen and say to them: `When I bring the sword against a land, and the people of the land choose one of their men and make him their watchman,

and he sees the sword coming against the land and blows the trumpet to warn the people,

then if anyone hears the trumpet but does not take warning and the sword comes and takes his life, his blood will be on his own head.

Since he heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning, his blood will be on his own head. If he had taken warning, he would have saved himself.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people and the sword comes and takes the life of one of them, that man will be taken away because of his sin, but I will hold the watchman accountable for his blood" (Ezekiel 33:1-6).

The prophet is a watchman to the house of Israel. His business is to warn sinners of their misery and danger. He must warn the wicked to turn from their way, that they may live. If souls perish through his neglect of duty, he brings guilt upon himself.

Likewise in today's world we have the responsibility to watch and warn this broken world of coming danger and the judgment of God.

"Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are well known to God, and I also trust are well known in your consciences."

(2 Corinthians 5:11)

We are God’s Ambassadors, representatives and carriers of God's word. Preaching is not simply a time-filler in the worship service, nor is it the sharing of personal experiences, no matter how emotionally stirring. It is a well-organized “talk” designed to give a series of steps to a better life. Preaching, as the apostle Paul records, is the vehicle by which the life-giving truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ is conveyed.

There is no doubt that preaching is a noble calling and one that is important to God.

If you feel you are being called to preach, seek God’s face and ask him to open doors to more opportunities and to give you confirmations, both internal and external.

We are the salt of the earth, we are the light of the world.

Many men and women throughout the ages have given themselves for the cause of the Gospel. We are reminded of these greater clouds of witnesses. Let us follow in their footsteps, knowing that great is our reward in heaven.

Therefore preach this Gospel with your might!
