Pray without ceasing

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

1 Thessalonians 5

16 Rejoice always,

17 Pray without ceasing,

18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

19 Do not quench the Spirit.

20 Do not despise prophecies,

21 but test everything; hold fast what is good.

22 Abstain from every form of evil.

Pray without ceasing is the instruction we are given, please note also Rejoice always and give thanks in all circumstances.

What could that instruction have meant?

Paul’s command in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing,” can be confusing. Obviously, it cannot mean we are to be in a head-bowed, eyes-closed posture all day long. Paul is not referring to non-stop talking, but rather an attitude of God-consciousness and God-surrender that we carry with us all the time. Every waking moment is to be lived in an awareness that God is with us and that He is actively involved and engaged in our thoughts and actions.

Let us define what Prayer is.

Prayer is first of all our communication system with God - the means by which we stay connected to the vine. The means by which we stay connected to our source - our source of everything - God the Father, Jehovah, Yahweh!

Prayer is the first ministry of any believer and it is the foundation which sets the tone for all other ministries. No great move of God was birthed without prayer, nothing in God's kingdom can be accomplished without prayer.

Prayer is deep calling onto deep, our love language flowing from a relationship with God the Father.

We cannot live without it

Prayer is a spiritual breath and a necessary component to life in Christ

It is truly the place of living, moving and breathing in God.

So what to do when you begin to feel overwhelmed, doubtful, fearful, weak or anxious.

PRAY and pray without ceasing.

God will develop your own prayer style, some pray for hours and hours and listen to God a bit. My own prayer style is I worship and adore God, then I listen to him carefully much more than I talk to him. I allow the holy spirit to empower and lead me in the intercessory prayers for others.

I have no power of my own, God is my only and absolute source.

May we live every moment flowing out of that place with God as our only source.

Pray without ceasing!

Amen

Walk good in Christ

Till we meet again
