Philippians 4:4-13
DOES IT SURPRISE YOU THAT PAUL WROTE today’s passage when he was in prison? He didn’t know what his future held—whether he’d be free or punished or, even killed—one thing for sure; Paul had learned to be content in all circumstances, whether good or bad. How many of us can make that claim?
It’s not uncommon to feel discontentment when we cannot control our situation. And, as long as our satisfaction depends on whether certain things work out, circumstances will continue to steal our peace. Paul was not saying that we will never experience anxiety or frustration again; rather, what matters is; how we respond when those feelings grip us ( and; believe me they can and; they will).
This is something Paul had to learn. He endured tremendous suffering, from shipwrecks and hunger to unjust imprisonment and even beatings.
Let’s look at 2 Corinthians 11:24-30). Ready, read…..the Apostle Paul knew as well as any one that situations can be painful ( to say the least) and seemingly hopeless. Yet, he finally discovered that true contentment came from Jesus, and; not the situation with which he found himself in.
How do you respond when circumstances are out of your control? The Apostle Paul chose to release and give all his anxieties to Jesus in exchange for peace. “The peace which supersedes and surpassed All human comprehension.” And, for you and I, let’s look at Phil. 4:7).
Today, that same peace is available to you and me.
Lets Pray
Father, like Jesus, into Your hands I commit my Spirit. Let me decrease so that you will increase. Show up and show out today, in Jesus’ Name, amen and amen.
