Keeping it real
I would have never thought prior to becoming a Christian, that Christianity would have been so hard. Especially from the stand point of friendships or just unity within the body of Christ. Even the friendship we are to inevitably have with God, we find ourselves so often on the wrong side of Him.
Many times I find myself speaking the words Paul did in Romans 7:19, “for the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Vs. 21, I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.” So often we have the greatest of intentions when we confront a brother or sister in Christ and those intentions quickly turn negative. Sometimes we are faced with challenges and a close friend offers comfort, which turns into accusations. This is so conspicuous in the story of Job.
Job 2:11, “now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him they came every one from his own place; ….. for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him and to comfort him.” Their initial intentions was great but evil was present and made room for their sins.
I heard a Pastor say, the problem with us is, we fall into sin but when we are aware and should get out, we buy a house and start living in it. We have to be cognizant of the fact that Christianity is built on relationships, relationship with God and relationship with our brothers and sisters in Christ and the two works interchangeably. If we want to strengthen the Church, first strengthen our relationship with God and our fellow saints in Christ.
