In the Cleft of the Rock, He will Hide me
A feeling of vulnerability came upon me, so I sought the comfort of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saints of God, it’s quite disturbing how things in the world are evolving. The wars, inner city violence, the unhinged blatant shootings and the lack of respect for life. Today’s experiences have me wanting a time out, a hide me in the cleft of the rock moment.
The cleft of the rock signifies a place of refuge, of safety, a hiding place, a place we experience God’s glory. It is also a place where sin is exposed, a place of repentance, forgiveness, restoration and redemption. The Lord God Almighty is our Rock, 2 Samuel 22:2-3, “…. The Lord is my rock and my fortress, and my deliverer. The God of my rock; in Him will I trust: He is my shield, and the horn of my salvation ….”
In Exodus 33, the cleft of the rock is where the Lord placed Moses to protect him from His glory. The Edomites built their city in the cleft of the rock because of pride but the Lord brought them low. In Songs of Solomon 2:14, it speaks of the cleft of the rock being a meeting place and a place of intimacy. These scriptures show the versatility of the cleft of the rock.
There is a place the Lord provides for His children that when the going gets rough, we can hide in the cleft of the rock. Psalm 27:5, “for in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of His tabernacle shall He hide me, He shall set me up upon a rock.”
God Bless.
