I Want To Know Him
Philippians 3:10, “that I may know Him, and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being made conformable unto His death.” As Christ Jesus lifted up His eyes to Heaven in prayer in John 17, He prayed; “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom He has sent,” verse 3.
A dear friend called me yesterday as a follow up to her call the day before. I missed her call and neglected to call her back and was engulfed in guilt. I kept telling her sorry. She stopped me and said, there is no need to say sorry because I know you. Know me? I asked, yes, she replied. If you could have answered and return my call you would. Every relationship requires knowing the person you are in a relationship with. Do you know God?
Knowing God is to have knowledge of Him. Knowing His deep secrets, His dos and don’ts, His abilities. Knowing is explained this way; we are on the sea shore and witnessing the effects of some great waves. On the other-hand being in it is a different experience. Being tossed to and fro and fighting for our lives. On the sea shore you know of the stormy waves, being in the midst of it, you know the stormy waves.
Knowing God is both informational and experiential. The Holy Bible is the information, but do we have experiential knowledge? Our experience produces testimonies, testimonies as the Bible says, is what we live by. While talking to a Pastor one day he said of the Church, we have informed knowledge but no experiential knowledge. Do you know God?
God Bless.
