The word of God is spiritual food. One should read, then meditate on the word and THEN put into practice all learned from God's word
Psalm 119:11 - 16
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O LORD: Teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared All the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, And have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Here's how to do an effective Bible study
1 Be fervent in doing your Bible study daily. Ask God to lead you as you study his word. The study of his word will lead you into a deep discovery of who God is and will lead you on a pathway of coming into the best life that God ordained for you
2 Pray before beginning and listen to God carefully. I expect to hear from God whenever I study his word and I really do
3 If studying about a particular topic...gather all scripture verses on the matter using a concordance and read carefully while listening to God
4 There is so much information available online but be careful to use the ones that are Bible based and not man's interpretation. All Rhema words (Revelation) must line up to the logos (the written word of God)
5 Use the original Greek and Hebrew bibles when studying topics. That way you can dig deep into the meaning of words. Most bibles that are in circulation are translations and one will miss pertinent information if not digging deeper.
The Strongs Concordance is good for using to study the original words and is also available online
6 Watch good Bible teachers online who expound on the word ask God to lead you to these individuals
Sometimes you can read the same scripture verses over and over and get so much food from the same chapter.
I once heard this said
" A chapter a day will keep the devil away"

Lord thank you for giving us your word, give us such a zeal and thirsting after studying your word. I pray you will give us revelation knowledge so we can grow in you
Teach us oh Lord
