God still speaks by Marcel & Jacqueline Bruff

Skeptics say God doesn’t speak anymore. Even some Christians claim God only speaks through the Bible.

Oftentimes they use the theological term, "sufficiency of scriptures" which means that, God's word is sufficient for our growth and development in Christ.

However, though this is true, it is also true that God still speaks to us through different ways and means.

If God spoke to Moses from a burning bush (Exodus 3:4-6), to Samuel in the dark of night (1 Samuel 3:1-9), to Elijah in a cave (1 Kings 19:9), to John the Baptist and others at Jesus’ baptism (Mark 1:9-11), and to Saul (subsequently Paul) and his traveling companions on the road leading to Damascus (Acts 9:4-7)—why would God not speak to us today?

From personal encounters as a child into young adulthood I can testify, as I have witnessed in my personal life, that God does speak to us in the here and now.

God speaks through dreams, visions, word of knowledge, revelation, the prophet, trances, His Holy Spirit and His word.

Paul also taught that the Lord gave some apostles, some prophets …

“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ." He continues, “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God.....That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.” (Eph. 4:11–14).

Be mindful that many false prophets are in the world deceiving many. We however are told to look at the fruit of the spirits, by their fruits you shall know them.

I must mention the gift of discernment is excellent and sharp in identifying the counterfeits and expose the true, "God told me." It is therefore danger to say 'God told me', when he did not.

Beware of those who speak and utter the, "God told me", without showing the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 - "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law". This is in opposition of the true and living God and his true prophets.

Some persons who use the “God told me” vocabulary don't understand the consequences or implications. "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God” (Hebrews 10:31)

In Conclusion whenever you aren't sure of someones, "God told me" ask your spiritual parents, prayer partners or the Holy Spirit for advices.
