"The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit." - Psalm 34:18
Topic: God Notices the ordinary
In a world where the mighty and powerful often take center stage, God's attention is drawn to the ordinary, the overlooked, and the marginalized. Throughout history, God has consistently chosen common, everyday individuals to accomplish extraordinary tasks.
One remarkable example is the prophet Amos, a humble shepherd and farmer who was called by God to speak truth to the powerful kings and emperors of his time (Amos 7:14-15). Despite his lack of formal training or royal connections, Amos boldly proclaimed God's message, calling out injustice and corruption.
Similarly, God chose:
- Moses, a fugitive shepherd, to lead Israel out of slavery (Exodus 3:1-4:17)
- David, a young shepherd boy, to become Israel's greatest king (1 Samuel 16:11-13)
- Mary, a simple virgin, to bear the Son of God (Luke 1:26-38)
These examples demonstrate God's heart for the ordinary and His willingness to use anyone, regardless of background or status, to achieve His purposes.
