Psalm 91 is a Psalm guilded with metaphors. It is a Psalm about God's protection.
In the next few days I shall go through it line by line. If ever we needed God's protection, it is now more than ever. As we face a worldwide pandemic - COVID 19. What do we do? Who can we turn to? Who can help us? Only God himself, he is the one true and living God who is sovereign. He rules and he reigns in victory. He is all mighty and all powerful. He can do anything and nothing is impossible for him to do. Will he not protect his people? Yes! Here is what his word says:
Psalm 91:1
I will use two translations here with the intention of imparting clear meaning
The NKJV Translation
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
The Amplified Translation
He who[a]dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will remain secure and rest in the shadow of the Almighty [whose power no enemy can withstand].
The promise doesn't apply to All but to those who choose to dwell in constant relationship with the most high
So let us define the place of dwelling:
Strong's Concordance skénoó: to have one's tent, dwell Original Word: σκηνόω Part of Speech: Verb Transliteration: skénoó Phonetic Spelling: (skay-no'-o) Definition: to have one's tent, dwell Usage: I dwell as in a tent, encamp, have my tabernacle. HELPS Word-studies Cognate: 4637 skēnóō – properly, to pitch or live in a tent, "denoting much more than the mere general notion of dwelling" (M. Vincent). For the Christian, 4637 (skēnóō) is dwelling in intimate communion with the resurrected Christ – even as He who Himself lived in unbroken communion with the Father during the days of His flesh (Jn 1:14). See 4638 (skēnōma).
Dwells, takes up residence there, stays there. The word dwells is present tense. It is not a far of place or the place where some dwelt (past tense) or a place to come only in need.
Here is a quote by Charles Spurgeon (one of my favorite authors):
"Every child of God looks towards the inner sanctuary and the mercy-seat, yet all do not dwell in the most holy place; they run to it at times, and enjoy occasional approaches, but they do not habitually reside in the mysterious presence"
Our staying and dwelling can only be by God's great grace. This is the time when all other things should become secondary to abiding in God's presence. As God's people we are not under lock-down but we are in "lock-in" with God. Such a beautiful place to be
The secret place is not one of an earthly location but the place where God's glory is experienced in depth of relationship with him. It is the place where we tap into God's glory. When one experiences God's glory one desires to stay in that place The promise is for those who dwell in the place of God's glory.
Imagine this God - the most high God....Elyon has drawn us close to him and made a simple way for us to be reconciled to him. He so desires relationship with us that even after the fall, God covered Adam and Eve and pronounced the coming of Christ which would be a propitiating work for sin so that all mankind could be reconciled with God Genesis 3:15
And I will cause hostility between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring.
He will strike[b]your head,
and you will strike his heel
Here is a link to properly dissect this scripture verse
Perhaps you want to come close to God then this is what needs to be done
Romans 10:9 to 13 Amplified
9 because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
10 For with the heart a person believes [in Christ as Savior] resulting in his justification [that is, being made righteous—being freed of the guilt of sin and made acceptable to God]; and with the mouth he acknowledges and confesses [his faith openly], resulting in and confirming [his] salvation.
11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him[whoever adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Him]will not be disappointed[in his expectations].”
12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile; for the same Lord is Lord over all [of us], and [He is] abounding in riches (blessings) for all who call on Him [in faith and prayer].
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord[in prayer]will be saved.”
Just believe in your heart and confess with your mouth the Lordship of Jesus Christ and you will be saved, redeemed, justified.
After Repentance (Turning away from sin and making Jesus Christ Lord). Your responsibility now is to dwell (stay, abide) in his presence by daily choosing to walk away from sin, walking away from the things of this world. Walk away from everything else that ever took preeminence and Run to God he is waiting with wide open arms. Run to him and dwell in the Secret place of Abbah.
Bless you my friends and Walk Good in Christ
