Social Distancing
Social distancing, also called physical distancing, means keeping a safe distance between yourself and other people who are not from the same household. This is because an infected person’s cough, sneeze or talking releases droplets from their mouth or nose and is launched in the atmosphere. This preventive measure is also because there are people infected with the virus but shows no symptoms.
It is possible that Covid-19 can live for hours or days on a surface if the sunlight and humidity is perfect for it’s survival. Aren’t you happy Jesus Christ does not practice social distancing? Everywhere we go today, we experience markers on the ground separating us, implementing the 6ft or 2m rule. Even in the Churches they are tags separating us, we are bumping fists or knocking elbows as greetings. What about “greet one another with a Holy kiss?” 2 Corinthians 12:13.
The irony is, God is not using social distancing to show up our distance between each other but the distance between ourselves and Him. Daily we are reminded to keep 6ft apart from each other to the extent where people are reminding us, you are too close to me. Sometimes if we get too close, you can expect the looks or stare down. We can’t even naturally cough or sneeze it creates another issue.
I am so glad our Lord and Savior does not recognize social distancing, much less practice it. He wants to be close to us. It is easy for us to be socially distant from God. We continue the Christian rituals but lose the intimate connection with Him. While we can social distance from each other, we cannot with God. “Draw nigh to God, and He will draw nigh to you ….,” James 4:8. He is our Protector, our Shield, our Comforter, our Peace, our Bridge over troubled waters. He is our Bright and Morning Star, our Healer, our Good Shepherd, our Bread of Life, our Way Maker. He is Emmanuel our Messiah, our God with us. There is no social distancing with God, Hallelujah!
God Bless.
