Have you gotten your Fish Yet?
A Good Friday tradition; the consuming of fish as oppose to meat. This day marks the day our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sacrificed His life for us. The abstaining from meat during this time is in recognition Christ body that was nailed to the cross. “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,” Romans 5:8.
It’s a mad rush on the roads today, the main question being asked is, have you gotten your fish yet? Spoke to a friend of mine who was out doing some shopping, she told me, the line up to purchase fish is ridiculous. The lines are so long it is discouraging for the people whose intention for shopping was not fish. The prices for fish during this time is unimaginable. In some case the prices are doubled.
My perspective is, Jesus is worth every sacrifice we make for Him. But for many it’s a routine at Easter time, not a belief in Jesus Christ and what He did for us. Sometimes it brings tears to my eyes when I remember what Jesus suffered for me. “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed, 1 Peter 2:24. Dead to sin is literally rendered, freed from sins (pass, present and future). Freed from the guilt and power of sin which could not be possible without an atonement.
For “all we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord have laid on Him the iniquity of us all,” Isaiah 53:6. The song writer penned it this way, “Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe. Sin has left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow.” Because of God’s perfect love He sent His Son to die for you and me. “Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him,” Romans 6:8.
For this Easter season let us truly celebrate the true meaning of Easter at this time, the death, the burial, the resurrection and the ascension of Jesus Christ.
God bless.
