"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places.” ( Matthew 24:7)
Many never consider how closely Bible events parallel our lives and the events in our current world. Indeed we are living in the last days.
In Today's article we will focus on earthquakes, as I was encouraged to reflect on this because of the events that took place in my country today.
According to long-term records (since the early 1900), we should expect about 16 major earthquakes in any given year. This includes 15 earthquakes in the magnitude 7 range and one earthquake magnitude 8.0 or greater.
In the past 40-50 years, our records show that we have exceeded the long-term average number of major earthquakes about a dozen times. The Bible did predict that earthquakes would increase, and with intensity.
Each year, tens of thousands of earthquakes occur. While most are minor, significant earthquakes can cause widespread destruction, suffering, and death.
The Global Seismographic Network is the global authority on earthquake recordings. The following are the 5 largest earthquakes ever recorded:-
1. Chile- May 22, 1960 (magnitude 9.5)
2. Alaska- March 28, 1964 (magnitude 9.2) ...
3. Indonesia- December 26, 2004 (magnitude 9.1) ...
4. Japan- March 11, 2011 (magnitude 9.0) ...
5. Russia- November 4, 1952 (magnitude 9.0).
Today while at home in Jamaica, we had a magnitude 5.8 earthquake. Approximately 5 weeks ago we had a magnitude 4.4. The tremors are getting stronger and the duration are longer. Last month a prophet prophesied that the Lord said 'the shaking will stop when the church becomes unshakable'.
My purpose is not to frighten anyone but to highlight the importance of setting our houses in order, as knowing the times, we persuade men about the value of their souls and where they will spend eternity.
God's grace is for all. We are encouraged to maintain a righteous relationship with Jesus Christ, as it is His will that none should perish but that all should come to repentance.
I pray for your strength in the shaking. May you be unshakable in your relationship with our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and be steadfast in your hearts.
