Drawing close to God by Marcel and Jacqueline Bruff

Drawing close to God.

Look around you. Do you notice the many distractions.? Two weeks ago a Bible verse caught my attention when I thought about the many distractions around us.

Today's world has a gazillion things to keep us busy and multi-tasking which may cause us to easily loose focus on God

The following is a list 9 ways to help us to draw closer to God.

1. Start and End each day with God.

Make it a priority as you awake to have devotion, don't pick up the phone first, pick up the bible first. End your day with God last. Practice becomes perfect. Doing this will help you to keep God on your mind all day.

2. Pray.

This is the greatest way that you will be moved towards God swiftly, prayer is a must, as the Bible says, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."(James 5:16-17)

3. Read the Bible.

This is how we get to know who God is and how He works—because Scripture is literally His inspired Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). As we study the Bible, we get an understanding of God’s purpose for our lives, so it’s important to consider the context of what we read. We’re told to meditate on the Word day and night (Joshua 1:8), so take your time. Just like other relationships, there's no need to rush things with God. Remember, everything is in His timing already.

4. fast weekly.

Fasting helps to bring strong spiritual changes and growth in the Lord . Fasting kills off evil desires. Scientists also recently discovered that fasting removes toxins and impurities from our bodies. Therefore we know that fasting has both physical and spiritual effects on our bodies.

5. Take thoughts captive.

Cut out the distractions, as frivolous and ungodly thoughts negatively impact our relationship with God. Remember, it takes conscious effort to identify and eliminate distractions from our lives. Rather than asking God to remove distractions, ask Him to identify them to you—then, for the strength to overcome them.

6. Honor God with your body.

Maintain good physical health, keep your purity and use your body only in ways that glorify God. “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV).

7. Repent of sins quickly.

The Old Testament has many stories to help us to learn the value and consequences of living long in sin. Delay is dangerous, therefore, repent quickly and apologize to God for known and unknown sins.

8. Be accountable to a close and personal companion. No man is an island. God created us as sociable beings. Isolation is not good for us mentally, emotionally as well as spiritually. Having a close confidante is good for mind, body and soul.

9. Attend church regularly.

Regularly attendance gives us spiritual nourishment from the Lord. This helps us to grow in our faith, as well as help us overall in maturing. Online services may be good, but personal attendance is way better.

This mortal flesh is weak, No one is perfect the 9 ways listed above are a guide to draw us closer to God and have Him draw closer to us. God wants a relationship with us and promises to reward those who seek to draw closer to Him (Hebrews 11:6). These are just a few things that each of us can do to foster a greater relationship with our creator

Let us continue to pray each other's strength In Jesus name.
