Discernment: It’s Importance

In 1 Kings 18:43 Elijah, “…. said to his servant, go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, there is nothing. And he said, go again seven times.” As the preacher preached on our ability to discern, he used this scripture to illustrate.

How important is it, to be able to discern the times we are living in and the blessings of the Lord on our lives. “And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, behold there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand,” verse 44. You see, Elijah believed God when He said He would send rain to counter the famine in Samaria, vs. 1-2. Elijah saw this rain in the spiritual and wanted his servant to see it to.

Just like Elijah, we need to be able to discern what is of God. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they spiritually discerned,”1 Corinthians 2:14.

The Bible is seen as being so controversial in these last days. The process of getting rid of it from society is in full swing. Sin has taken preeminence over Salvation. They are removing the Bible and replacing it with provocative and distasteful literature for our children to read. Are we able to discern what the enemy is doing around us today?

God bless.
