DEI in the church

DEI in the Church

DEI is any policy or practice designed to make people of various backgrounds feel welcome and ensure they have support to perform to the fullest of their abilities in the workplace. Diversity, equity and inclusion are the words for the acronym, DEI. Diversity is a practice or quality of including people of a range of different social and ethnic backgrounds, genders, and sexual orientations. Equity, is the quality of being fair and impartial. Inclusion is the action or state of including or being included within a group or structure.

I realize society is pushing DEI but not just in the workplace. It is being pushed even in schools, colleges and universities. I took the liberty of googling; “How does DEI affect Christianity?” This was the answer: The concept of diversity, equity and inclusion aligns with the biblical teachings of God, if it is understood through the proper theological lenses. Scriptures highlights the value of diversity, the need for equity and the justice, and significance of inclusion in our interactions and communities.

DEI is actually a biblical concept. Think about these verses; “And He said unto them, go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature,” Mark 16:15. “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male or female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus,” Galatians 3:28. The body of Christ has former thieves, homosexuals, transgenders, gays, murderers, nonbinaries, sexual predators and list goes on. We were all sinners when we came to Christ but Grace saved us, Romans 8:10.

Today I present to you the Church, which is full of diversity, that has equity through fairness and impartiality and inclusion that welcomes every sinner to the body of Christ.

God Bless.
