At what cost? by Owen Mitchell

A few days ago the Lord laid this thought on my heart, “At what cost”? This thought was associated with selfishness, self-centeredness and sin.

I was reminded of two people who by God’s grace was placed in a family. The mother in the family had the responsibility of taking care of them both, by providing shelter and food. These people had no financial responsibility. Now, they have squandered God’s grace and they are faced with being taken out of this home by bailiffs. At what cost!

Luke 18:11, “the Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.” God showed me that our Christianity is for show and not a way of life. “If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? At what cost? We come to Church, a place of cooperate worship and we portray the image of a Godly Christian but what about when we are not in Church or around other Christians?

At what cost? We lie, we cheat, we disrespect, gossip, backbite and sometimes we disregard the people closest to us, the people God has placed around us. What will it cost us for doing such? The Bible tells us in Psalm 139:1-2, “Thou knowest my downsitting and mine upraising, thou understandest my thoughts afar off. Thou compasseth my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.”

Let us search ourselves today and ask, is it worth it?

God Bless.
