Are we Identifiable?
I had an experience the other day that floored me. I heard the Lord asking me this question, are Christians identifiable? He said, “if you should place Christians and non-Christians together, can these two groups of people be differentiated?
I was reading John 4 about Jesus and the woman of Samaria. Suddenly, I realized that Jesus was identified as a Jew and the woman a Samaritan. How did she know Jesus was a Jew? Was it because of His attire or was His hair long, was He bearded? There had to be something distinct about Him, that identified Him as a Jew.
What and who we are identified as, causes people to treat us accordingly and with specificity. It was known that the Jews had nothing to do with the Samaritans. The Samaritans were considered as a mixed race and their religious practices were impure. Hence the question from the Samaritan woman, “…. how is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? …., vs. 9.
There’s specificity associated to every group of people. The Bible identified Egyptians, Israelites, Nazarites, Jews, Greeks, Samaritans and even Barbarians. We Christians are identified through the washing of the blood of the risen Lamb and being separated but are we identifiable?
God Bless.
